Privacy Policy

Leeway: Fuel & Mileage Tracker keeps your records on your device. We respect your privacy and believe your data should stay with you. This Privacy Policy explains the one thing the app does send out — anonymous usage analytics — what that does and does not include, and how to switch it off.

What changed

Earlier versions of Leeway sent nothing anywhere at all. That is no longer strictly true, and we would rather say so plainly than bury it. Leeway now uses a product analytics service to understand which parts of the app people actually use, so we know what to improve. It is anonymous, it never includes the details you log, and you can turn it off at any time.

Your records stay on your device

Everything you enter stays in the app’s database on your device. That includes:

• Vehicle names and details
• Odometer readings, fuel prices and amounts
• Notes on expenses
• GPS coordinates and place names for any location you attach to an entry

None of this is uploaded, synced, backed up to us, or shared with anyone. Locations you attach to entries never leave your device. You can delete all of it at any time by uninstalling the app.

What usage analytics collects

When analytics is switched on, the app records anonymous events describing what kind of thing you did — never the contents.

Product events, such as: screen views; onboarding steps; saving or deleting an entry; adding, editing, archiving or deleting a vehicle; creating, completing or deleting a reminder; opening the journey map; changing a setting; exporting or importing a backup; and answering the in-app rating and location prompts.

Event properties, which describe shape only: the entry type (fuel, charge or expense), the expense category, whether a location was attached, whether the tank was full, how many days an entry was backdated, the vehicle and fuel type, and counts.

Device properties: platform, OS name and version, device model and manufacturer, app version, language, and country.

User properties: how many vehicles, entries and reminders you have; your unit preference (metric or imperial); currency; language; default mileage range; and whether location auto-detect is switched on — the setting itself, not any location.

Session and lifecycle events: session start and end, and app open and background.

Each install is identified only by an anonymous device ID generated by the analytics service. There is no account system and no login, and we never collect your name, email address or phone number.

What usage analytics never collects

• Vehicle names, expense notes, odometer readings, fuel prices or amounts
• GPS coordinates or place names
• Any advertising or vendor identifier — IDFA, IDFV, ADID and App Set ID are explicitly disabled in the app

There is no cross-app or cross-site tracking, and none of this data is used for advertising in any way. We do not sell or share your information with advertisers, data brokers, or anyone else.

Turning analytics off

Analytics is on by default. You can turn it off at any time under Settings → Privacy → Share usage data. Turning it off stops all collection immediately — nothing further is sent.

Your choice travels with your backups, so if you restore a backup from a device where you had opted out, analytics stays off.

Who processes this data

Analytics is provided by Amplitude, Inc., which acts as our processor. Data is processed and stored in Amplitude’s United States data region. You can read their privacy policy at amplitude.com/privacy.

Your IP address is used by Amplitude to work out an approximate country, which is stored as the country property described above. We do not store your IP address.

How long we keep it

Your rights in the EU and UK

Our lawful basis for usage analytics is legitimate interest — understanding how Leeway is used so we can improve it — balanced by the fact that the data is anonymous and you can opt out at any time, for any reason, with no effect on how the app works.

You have the right to object to this processing. Switching off Share usage data in Settings is the immediate way to do that, and it takes effect straight away. You also have the right to request access to the data associated with your device, and to ask us to erase it. Email us and we will action it.

Your rights in California

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioural advertising. We have never done either.

Children’s privacy

Leeway is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. The usage analytics described above are anonymous and contain no personal details. If a parent or guardian has concerns, they may contact us.
